Fillings
In modern dentistry, there are two main types of fillings: direct and indirect.
- Direct fillings: These are placed directly into the tooth during a single visit. They include composite resins, glass ionomer cements, and similar materials. Older silver amalgam fillings are rarely used today.
- Indirect fillings: These include inlays, onlays, crowns, and veneers that are made outside the mouth—either from impressions or using CAD/CAM 3D technology. Common materials include ceramic, zirconia, gold, and resin-based ceramics.
